The Andersons Barricade is the granular version of prodiamine — the same active ingredient found in the community-favorite Prodiamine 65 WDG. It delivers professional-grade pre-emergent protection without requiring a sprayer, making it the best option for homeowners who prefer the simplicity of broadcast spreader application.

How It Works

Like all prodiamine products, Barricade creates a chemical barrier in the top layer of soil that prevents weed seeds from germinating. The granular carrier dissolves after watering in, releasing the prodiamine into the soil. Residual protection lasts approximately 120 days per application.

Granular vs. Liquid Prodiamine

The tradeoff is cost. Prodiamine 65 WDG costs pennies per 1,000 sq ft when mixed into a sprayer, while Barricade Granular costs roughly $7-9 per 1,000 sq ft. You’re paying a premium for convenience. For homeowners with smaller lawns or those who don’t want to invest in spray equipment, that premium is often worth it.

Application

Apply with a standard broadcast spreader at label rates when soil temperatures reach 50-55°F. Water in within 14 days of application. A split application (half rate in early spring, half rate 6-8 weeks later) can extend coverage through the full season.
